Why Are Kelly Ripa’s Kids Giving Her the Digital Cold Shoulder?
Ever wonder why some parents are persona non grata in the social media world of their youngsters? Well, Kelly Ripa might just have you beat in the blocked-by-the-kids department. The 53-year-old talk show host — who has Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 21, with her husband Mark Consuelos — has been given the digital cold shoulder by her trio.
“Usually, if I comment on one of their social media posts, I will get a temporary blocking,” Ripa shared with E! News on Tuesday, September 10. “Then, the ban gets lifted and I’m reinstated. But I’m like, ‘Why can’t you guys be like the other kids on social media? They happily allow their parents in there.'” She even name-dropped Lisa Rinna’s kids who often feature their mom in TikTok videos, hinting she wouldn’t mind a similar cameo.
This isn’t the first time the Live with Kelly and Mark star has brought up her kids’ digital boundaries. “I’m pretty sure they’ve blocked us,” she mentioned in an April 2023 interview. “When you have a news feed and it says ‘Suggest more or suggest this, like this or block this channel,’ I’m certain they have blocked any channel with any mention of our names. Just like they block us on social media. They block us any way they can.”
On the flip side, the 53-year-old proud dad gets it. He knows their kids prefer a spotlight-free zone on social media, explaining, “Each kid, through different periods of time in their lives, go through a stage like, ‘Don’t talk about us or I’d rather not be a subject. We respect that.”
