Kelly Ripa Embarrassed By Mark Consuelos Quoting ‘The Outsiders’ To Ralph Macchio On ‘Live’: “Please Do Not”
Mark Consuelos did not necessarily play it cool in front of Live with Kelly and Mark‘s special guest this morning.
He and Kelly Ripa welcomed Ralph Macchio, who was promoting the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai. Consuelos greeted The Karate Kid himself with the beginnings of the famous crane kick, to which Macchio said, “He’s got it down! You’re legit.”
“I’ve been doing that since I was 13 years old,” Consuelos gushed, as Ripa teased, “He’s been practicing that for his whole life.”
Later on in the interview, Ripa asked The Outsiders star for his thoughts about the Broadway musical adaptation of the 1983 film, which was based on S.E. Hinton’s 1967 novel.
“I loved it,” Macchio said. “The cast, the production is just wonderful. I read that book. It was written in the ’60s, I read it in the ’70s. And you know, I got to be in the movie in the 80s. And now, here we are in 2024, it’s [the] Best Musical on Broadway.”
Ripa asked, “When you saw it, did it bring back memories?”
Macchio confirmed that it did, noting that the film was “such a big part of [his] life” and that the role has “held such a special place for [him].”
“You know, I get to say the ‘Stay gold, Ponyboy’ line and all that. ‘You’re doing it for Johnny,’” he added, prompting Consuelos to try out his best impression of Matt Dillon‘s Dallas.
“We’ll do it for Johnny!” Consuelos said. “Johnny, man!”
Consuelos then recalled, “Whenever I saw Matt Dillon do that scene, I would always do it.”
Ripa chimed in to shed light on Consuelos’ admiration of Macchio, explaining, “We see Ralph once a year outside of the studio at a barbecue. And I have to control Mark. I’m like, ‘Please, do not do the stuff! Just this one time.’”
Consuelos poked fun at himself, quipping, “Don’t do the swan kick,” and “just leave Ralph alone.”
“I met you with your family the first time I met you. It was like being at a Comic Con,” Macchio remembered, which Ripa got a kick out of.
