Kelly Ripa opens up about being treated for her mental health disorder

Mark Consuelos got Kelly Ripa good on Live with Kelly and Mark this morning.

Shortly after they kicked off their daily host chat, Ripa shared news that “a bowl of yogurt a day keeps mental health disorders away.”

“This thrills me to no end because I’ve been treating my mental health disorders with yogurt for years,” she quipped.

However, Consuelos chimed in and one-upped her.

“And I would say, have an extra bowl,” he joked, as he, Ripa, and the audience erupted into laughter.

“Have a little more, Kel,” he teased, before eventually asking why yogurt is so helpful.

“Who cares?” Ripa quipped, but she still proceeded to offer an explanation: “They’re saying that a common bacterium found in fermented foods and yogurt called lactobacillus plays a crucial role in managing stress, potentially aiding and preventing conditions like depression and anxiety,” she read aloud. “I have a feeling it probably calms down any anxiety or nighttime stress.”

Consuelos chimed in, “That’s good to know.”

The co-host couple enjoy poking fun at each other on the air, and Ripa got her chance to return the favor later on in the segment, when she recalled a silly and sleepy anecdote about Consuelos that took place when their daughter, Lola, was visiting them while they were staying in London.

“She’s like, ‘Mom, Mom, come here!’ I came out of the bedroom, and there’s like a little couch, a seating area. And Mark is on the couch, he’s of course sleeping,” she said.

Noting that Consuelos “was out like a light,” Ripa explained that he was “sitting straight up and he’s got his phone in his hand.”

“[Lola] goes, ‘We were having a conversation,’” Ripa continued, noting that Lola was waiting for her father to send over a contact. As she was “waiting for him to AirDrop it” to her, she heard snoring.

“‘And I look over, and that’s what he’s doing,’” Ripa recalled Lola telling her. “And I go, ‘Yeah, that’s my life. That’s my whole life.’”

Consuelos conceded that he’s “a sleeping baby.”
