In tonight’s Fire Country episode, the Lazarus fire was a campaign fire. It means it was so huge that most of CalFire were brought in. That was firefighters all throughout the California state and it was up to them to get fire under control. Eve went into the fire with Three Rock. They made a great impression on the Governor.
The prisoners showed their dedication to reform and they might have saved the program with their good deeds. It also helps that they now know it was Luke that was sabotaging them. Luke wanted to shut them down. He thought it was a political nightmare after drugs were found at the camp. It was made worse once a prisoner tried to escape and Luke didn’t want to be attached to that. He has political ambitions.
Luke may be Bode’s uncle, but he’s always looked out for himself before anyone else. He was glad when he got Sharon’s job. He didn’t mind ticking off his brother. He once hit on his brother’s wife. He told Sharon about Vince’s brief moment of weakness with another woman.
Vince only forgave him for all that because Luke donated a kidney to Sharon. Luke probably did it to score brownie points with the higher ups. He sure didn’t do it out of the kindness of his heart. No one was going to forgive him when they heard Luke was trying to send Bode back to prison.
Luke was lucky that Manny just punched him. Manny might get fired because of it. He just didn’t care enough to kiss Luke’s butt to fight it. He has no regrets about that punch. His daughter wishes he had regrets. Gabriella didn’t want her father getting fired because of this.
She thought maybe Manny should apologize to Luke and he shot that down. Manny instead went to the campaign fire. He said as long as he has a job he was a firefighter and he was going to help with the Lazarus fire. Gabriella went with him because Vince’s whole team was going.
Gabriella was also holding onto a secret. She knew that Vince recently had a cardiac event. She had him checked out by doctors and the doctors weren’t finding anything because Vince wasn’t being completely honest with them. Nor was he doing that with Gabriella. Gabriella has saved his life twice now.
He shouldn’t be out in the field. He shouldn’t be out on a campaign fire. Vince made her keep his heart condition a secret. He said he wants to fight fires with his son as long as possible. With Three Rock on the chopping block, he wasn’t sure if he was going to get that opportunity again
Only Vince wasn’t well enough for a campaign fire. The other reason it’s called a campaign fire was that it was a literally a campaign to take it out. It meant fighting fires for days sometimes weeks on end. Vince didn’t have the stamina for that.
He told Gabrielle he would tell his family. He then pushed that off by saying they all needed to focus on the campaign fire. Gabriella knew his situation. She frequently checked in on him. Both of them became concerned for Manny when Manny continued to spiral out.
Manny took some crazy risks out in the field during the campaign fire. He almost got killed. He lived because he made it out of a blast radius in time when a bomb went off. CalFire was setting off blasts to try and control the fire. Manny was taking too many risks. Gabriella told him that was stupid.
She tried to stop him and he kept taking more risks. He went hours without sleep. He was refusing to shower. It took Eve knocking some sense into him for him to realize he was spiraling. He’s been down this road before. Its what led to him going to prison. It also was a result of his addiction.
Manny was a gambler. He didn’t realize that he was gambling with his life and livelihood until Eve pointed it out. After that, Manny apologized to Gabriella for his behavior.
He took a shower. He finally rested. He also learned that Eve saved his job. She cleared it with the higher ups. He wasn’t going to get fired for punching Luke. It was great news for his loved ones. Gabriella didn’t have long to celebrate because Vince got trapped by the fire. He was checking on another member of his team that had a tree branch for all of him.
There was a lot of tree branches on fire falling everywhere. It cut off Vince and Eddie from everyone else. They were going to die if they didn’t get rescued and so Bode made sure Three Rock went after those firefighters. They saved those men’s lives. They also finally discussed as a family Vince’s heart condition. Gabriella came clean about everything.
Vince was taken to a hospital. He said he would go back home once he was released. He was finally taking his health seriously now. And for their amazing rescue, the Governor later announced that Three Rock will remain open.
Manny didn’t enjoy the moment they all returned to Edgewater. He was on the run it seems. Luke was pressing charges and there was a warrant out for his arrest.
Manny was choosing to run rather than face charges. Manny missed it when Bode learned he earned Good Conduct Credit for the rescue. It knocks twelve months off his sentence and he only had eleven months left. He was basically now a free man. And it probably ranked second after he kissed Gabriella during the campaign.
But Jake managed to return in time to celebrate Genieve’s birthday.
