Sheriff Country’s synopsis gives away a key Fire Country plot!

After having seen Fire Country season 2, episode 8, “It’s Not Over,” I’m sure we’ve all been wondering whether or not Luke Leone is going to be ousted out of the office of Division Chief at Cal Fire. Sure, he had good intentions when he threw Three Rock on the altar to be sacrificed in order to save the con camp program as a whole. But it was the way he went about things that didn’t sit right.

Instead of telling his friends and family that he made a hard choice for the greater good, he allowed them to believe the call was out of his hands. The truth, however, is that he’d went to the governor himself to make his case for why the other camps shouldn’t suffer due to issues at one. He didn’t own his decision and it came out in the worst possible way.

Add that on top of him not having the connections that his sister-in-law, Sharon, does from 15 years of working in the position she’d given up to work more closely in the field, and you’ve got the set-up for him to either step down or be let go as DC. Sharon was in her element during the Firefighter’s Ball when it came to directing and coordinating supplies for the campaign fire known as Lazarus.

She impressed the governor as she used resources outside of Cal Fire to ensure those fighting the growing blaze could get the materials they need to combat it. It was also clear that Sharon was enjoying what she was doing because she’s masterful at it and is a boss, always has been. To be honest, it makes sense that Fire Country would be building toward a return for her to the position she had. But it’s not just this series that’s pointing to Sharon reclaiming the title of DC. So is Sheriff Country, the recently greenlit spin-off that’ll be led by Morena Baccarin.

The synopsis for the show is as follows:

SHERIFF COUNTRY stars Morena Baccarin as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr of FIRE COUNTRY), who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter. SHERIFF COUNTRY is an expansion of the universe of the hit drama series FIRE COUNTRY.

You’ll note that they made a point of establishing Sharon’s title when it could have read, “the stepsister of Cal Fire firefighter Sharon Leone.” We know Sheriff Country won’t be premiering until the 2025-2026 season, so it’s possible that Sharon might not be back at her post until Fire Country season 3 but with a campaign fire being the premise of the penultimate episode of the second season, I do think a return to her post is going to come up especially after Sharon easily took control back from Luke during the ball.

To be honest, Sharon reclaiming the role of division chief can’t come fast enough because, while I did enjoy seeing her out in the field getting into a mix of incident calls, she’s at her best when she’s controlling the scene. Like I said, she’s a boss and she’s excellent at her job. Her being directed where to go and what to do has not felt right. I’d like to see her back in charge, it’s where she belong.
