Julie Chrisley’s Attorney Blames Her Resentencing Decision on Fame, Vows to Appeal
As predicted an appeal is on the horizon and Julie Chrisley’s lawyer is slamming the judge’s decision to resentence her. This time, he’s blaming her fame for the judge refusing to lower the sentence.
If it isn’t one thing, it’s another as we’ve learned in this ongoing saga for the Chrisley Knows Best alum. Perhaps, the judge refused to reduce her sentence due to the bank fraud and tax evasion charges. But then again, her lawyers wouldn’t really have a leg to stand on if they went down that road.
No bias for Julie Chrisley
Instead, Jay Surgent, one of Julie’s defense attorneys, told TMZ that he believed the judge wanted to make a stand against bias toward celebrities. He feels that this is the reason he refused to lower her sentence.
After all, Julie is well-known by millions of people and many were watching and waiting for the outcome of the hearing. Jay feels that the judge is choosing to make an example of her instead.
That’s the only reason he can see for the judge not considering their case. Jay claims that Julie has been a model inmate and poses no threat to society. And as expected, her legal team has said they will definitely be appealing the decision.
Not surprising considering how emotional Julie was in court during the resentencing. Her children, Savannah and Chase Chrisley were present and had hoped for a better outcome for their mother.
Julie was sentenced to seven years in prison and her lawyers were hoping to reduce the sentence to five years. The judge, however, found that her current punishment was appropriate and kept it. Undoubtedly that came as a crushing blow.
Jay mentioned that Julie was disappointed but still had faith everything would work out. Todd Chrisley is also serving his own 12-year sentence in Florida and is standing by her. According to the lawyer, despite everything, their marriage is still going strong.
