Veteran yacht expert Kate Chastain shocked by situation on Below Deck Mediterranean

As a seasoned yachting vet, Kate Chastain has seen her fair share of seafaring drama. Still, even the expert was shocked by the situation onboard Mustique during Season 9 of Below Deck Mediterranean.

In the above clip from the Below Deck Mediterranean After Show following Episode 12, Kate gave her two cents on the drama this season, specifically the love triangle between Joe Bradley, Elena “Ellie” Dubaich, and Bri Muller that turned into controversy between the two stews.

While, as Kate noted in the video above, she had seen some intense feuds among her team throughout her own career, the drama unfolding within Aesha Scott’s department was a whole new story.

“This is like a full-on war,” Kate said while discussing the situation with Aesha in the video above. “If you are attracted to someone, you don’t want somebody else flirting with your person. So to also work with that person, like, there’s no way you’re gonna win here.”

In case you missed it, second stew Ellie and third stew Bri have had a tough time working together this season. Their relationship went downhill after Bri and Joe kissed, even though she knew Ellie had a crush on him. Later, he and Ellie had a makeout session of their own. And no, he doesn’t want to be with either of them.

After Kate said that she’s “team Bri” in the whole debacle, Aesha decided that she was in agreement. “You know what? I’m team Bri too, because I think Ellie is too used to getting her way,” she said.

Earlier in their chat, the chief stew had expanded on this point.

“You could see Ellie looking at Bri and being like, ‘I’m taller, I’m blonder, I’m slimmer. How could Joe possibly want you over all of this?’ And it drove her mad,” she explained. “So then it went from being a power struggle to a power struggle plus, ‘What the f-ck is going on? I’m supposed to be winning in this.’ And then the confusion made her crazy and even more evil.”

“It’s a villain origin story,” said Kate. Still, Aesha doesn’t think Ellie was completely to blame; she was disappointed in both of her team members.

“I think if you, as a professional working adult, cannot continue your job because you and your coworker are both interested in the same guy, grow up,” she said.

“And also, if you want to win the guy, act like you don’t like him,” added Kate. “Care less.”
