Below Deck Med has hidden a shocking truth
Below Deck Mediterranean season 9’s Bosun Iain Maclean may be struggling in his own performance, but one of his choices didn’t get pre-approval by Captain Sandy Yawn, and it could change the entirety of the charter season. While Iain has been struggling through the charter season, he hasn’t been the only crew member causing Captain Sandy issues on Mustique. Both Iain and Chef Johnathan Shillingford have been having major issues with their performances, while Bri Muller has been going through her own set of personal issues with her fellow Stew Ellie Dubaich, as they’re both interested in Deckhand Joe Bradley.
In a preview clip from the next episode of Bravo’s Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, Iain is shown chatting with Captain Sandy Yawn about his choice for Lead Deckhand, which she wasn’t aware of prior. Iain explained that he chose Joe as the lead based on his experience level before the charter season began, and Captain Sandy shared she wasn’t happy with the decision. “I’ve docked this boat a few times; I’ve watched [Nathan Gallagher] work circles around him,” Captain Sandy shared. “Joe’s a great talker, so maybe that’s why you thought that.” Captain Sandy hasn’t been satisfied with Iain.
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Should Bosun Iain Maclean Be Fired From Below Deck Med?
While Iain had the right to choose his lead deckhand, the Bosun of the crew typically takes some of the performance from the first charter into consideration before making his decision. Captain Sandy explained in the preview clip that Iain “should’ve informed me before making this decision. Joe, in the last few dockings, I always have to correct him.” In not informing Captain Sandy of his decision, Iain has chosen a lead deckhand who can’t seem to work well under pressure, which is the opposite of what the crew needs. If he’d been upfront, Captain Sandy could’ve helped guide Iain.
With Iain having a difficult time on Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 in his decision making and with his leadership abilities, it’s clear that he’s not functioning well aboard Mustique or as part of the crew. While Iain has had his own struggles with the superyacht crew, his time on the Mustique has been easy, as his crew has been able to smooth over the issues he’s been faced with in his day-to-day work. Iain hasn’t been able to handle things on his own, and he’s angered his crew multiple times, making it clear he should be fired from Mustique.
As Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 continues, the charter season has begun to get rough for some of the yachties aboard Mustique. While Iain felt that he was able to choose who he wanted as his lead deckhand without consulting the Captain, making that decision without her input was a breach of trust. As Captain Sandy has had issues with Iain already this charter season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Below Deck Mediterranean bosun be fired from his position soon. Iain may be capable, but he hasn’t been living up to his full potential on the show.
