Chef Johnathan Shillingford was accused of pretending to perform poorly to make an impression

Below Deck Mediterranean’s Chef Johnathan Shillingford has been accused of being a production plant because of his poor performance aboard Mustique, but there’s a clue to his fate after the accusations. Throughout Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, Chef Jono has been having a difficult time creating innovative, delicious meals for the charter guests. During the first charter of the season, it was understandable that he struggled due to a lack of provisions and a struggle with the rest of the crew. As things have progressed, however, Jono’s performance has not improved, and many are calling for him to be fired.

According to Below Deck Med fans on Reddit, it’s possible that Chef Jono’s performance will improve to the point that he won’t be fired aboard Mustique this charter season. Reddit user u/luna934934 shared that they don’t believe Jono will be fired from the superyacht, as there’s “there is no “it’s time to let you go” in any of the previews [this season].” According to the other users in the comments, typically if someone is going to be fired in the Below Deck franchise, there will be a discussion about their firing previewed in the promo for the season.

While there isn’t any promotional material that leads to the conclusion of Chef Johnathan’s firing, it’s possible that the Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 promo team has made a conscious decision to leave the footage out for shock value. Though it’s possible that the Below Deck Med chef could improve, it remains to be seen, and his current performance warrants him being fired in an upcoming episode. Chef Jonathan’s performance has been abysmal throughout the first charters of the season, and the fact that Captain Sandy Yawn has given him second and third chances is commendable of her leadership.

As Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 began, Johnathan shared that his ego was big, but his skillset was bigger. While his ego has remained large throughout the season, his skillset hasn’t delivered on a charter yet. His cooking has been complained about by both primary guests and the others on the charter, as well as by the Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 crew. Even Chief Stew Aesha Scott, who tends to be kind in the way she speaks about other crew members, has struggled with the meals Jono has given her and the interior team to serve to the guests.

With just a few charters having passed in the season thus far, Chef Jono and the rest of the crew have weeks ahead of them with dozens of charter guests left to impress. While Captain Sandy hasn’t fired Chef Jono yet, it’s possible that even though the firing itself hasn’t been previewed in any promotional material, she could in the future. While some are ready to see Chef Jono fired, others hope that the Below Deck Mediterranean chef is able to regroup and hone his skills in order to become a successful member of the Mustique crew.
