Below Deck Finally Revealed The Dangerous Reason Captain Kerry Could’ve Fired Ben Willoughby
Below Deck season 11’s Ben Willoughby has been saying Captain Kerry Titheradge unnecessarily tarnished his reputation, but after seeing his behavior in the most recent episode of the series, things could’ve been much worse for Ben. Throughout Below Deck season 11, Ben has struggled to keep his ego afloat as he’s transitioned from the Lead Deckhand of the St. David crew to the Bosun. Captain Kerry chose to promote Ben after Jared Woodin was fired, but after seeing his most recent decisions, the Captain may have bigger issues with the new Bosun than he did with the previous one.
During Below Deck season 11’s most recent episode, Ben’s poor behavior was exposed in more than one area. Captain Kerry, who tends to be more relaxed, decided to inspect the crew’s bunks and ensure they were up to safety standards, but Ben chose to ignore the inspection entirely. Feeling it was a waste of his time, Ben’s frivolity got on Captain Kerry’s nerves, which made things worse when the pair had to work through a difficult situation together. Ben shared he felt Captain Kerry was “micromanaging galore” and that he “couldn’t win” when working with his superior on St. David.
Should Captain Kerry Have Fired Ben?
Though Below Deck season 11’s charter is nearly over, was Ben’s misbehavior worthy of Captain Kerry taking action? While Ben’s decision-making is typically sound and rational, the way he was speaking and acting in the most recent episode of the series left many viewers wondering if he’s even qualified to work at the Bosun level. Disregarding direct orders from the Captain and choosing to slack off rather than work hard in the final moments of a charter season is disappointing. Ben’s overall decision to work for himself rather than the team is a disheartening turn for the multi-season yachtie.

While Ben’s behavior wasn’t great in the most recent episode of Below Deck season 11, there have been some moments throughout the season where he’s shined as a part of the crew. His work as Bosun has been well-done, and his ability to bring the team together hasn’t gone unnoticed. Despite the fact that he’s been good at his job in the past, however, the glaring indiscretions from the most recent episode of the series shouldn’t go unpunished. Though it may be too late to fire Ben from the charter, Captain Kerry should still warn him about the potential consequences.
With Below Deck coming to a close, Ben’s behavior may be a thing of the past sooner rather than later. Though he’s been able to work well as the Bosun aboard St. David for the majority of the season, his insubordinate behavior is too much for Captain Kerry to be expected to deal with. Ben’s frivolous decision to ignore Captain’s orders and pointedly dismiss his superior isn’t something that’s typically tolerated on a superyacht. It’s possible Below Deck may not see Ben again in the future due to his actions.
