Will Trent is adding Gina Rodriguez as a series regular in season 3, but I’m still traumatized by what happened to Susan Kelechi Watson’s character in season 2 to trust that Rodriguez is sticking around for the long run. The ABC police procedural show is based on Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent books and follows the eponymous character, a sharp-eyed GBI agent with a traumatic past. Over the course of two seasons, the cast of Will Trent, which includes Ramón Rodríguez as Will, Erika Christensen as Angie, and Iantha Richardson as Faith, has remained relatively the same. However, that will change soon.
The Will Trent season 2 finale ended on a cliffhanger, with Will arresting Angie after learning the truth about Lenny’s death. Crystal, the daughter of the woman Lenny was dating, stabbed him in the neck in season 1. Lenny was abusing Crystal just like he abused Angie, and Angie helped cover up the murder to protect Crystal. However, the season 2 finale revealed Crystal had been killing more pedophiles, and the truth about everything else began to unravel. So, Angie is in jail and Will is nowhere to be found, and I’m nervous that more tragedy will follow in season 3.

Rodriguez Is Playing Marion Alba
Per Deadline, Gina Rodriguez has been cast as a series regular in the delayed Will Trent season 3. The actress is set to play Marion Alba, an Assistant District Attorney who has recently moved to Atlanta. Marion is described as “charismatic” and “confident,” but her charms seemingly do little to impress Will upon their first meeting. Even though Will and Marion’s first impression of one another isn’t great, they are quickly forced to work together on a case, which could allow a bond to form between them, strengthening their connection. Aside from that, not much else is known about Rodriguez’s new character.

Watson’s Cricket Dawson Died In The Will Trent Season 2 Premiere
As some may recall, Susan Kelechi Watson guest starred as Cricket Dawson, a bomb technician, in the Will Trent season 2 premiere. Given her flirtation with Will and the obvious chemistry between the two characters, it seemed as if Cricket would stick around for a while. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, and I’m worried that Will Trent season 3 might repeat what happened to Cricket with Gina Rodriguez’s Marion.

Toward the end of the season 2 episode, Will and Cricket tried to defuse a bomb in the GBI building’s parking garage. As its ticking timer was winding down to zero, Cricket realized there wouldn’t be enough time to stop it. So, she sent Will on a fool’s mission and ran to an enclosed room with the bomb. Cricket threw it inside and closed the door but didn’t have enough time to run away and shield herself from the blast. Will watched from a distance as the bomb went off, killing Cricket and any chance of a romance between the two characters.
Despite Watson and Ramón Rodríguez’s great onscreen chemistry, the actress’ character died, which makes me scared for Rodriguez’s character. Of course, Rodriguez is a series regular (unlike Watson), but that doesn’t mean Marion won’t die. Her life, just like any other character’s, is expendable, and Will Trent has a reputation for giving Will the worst luck regarding love.The Will Trent season 2 shocking moment could come back around in season 3, and Marion’s fate could mirror Cricket’s (even though it shouldn’t).
