The mudslide destroying a group of luxury cabins impacted Edgewater as a whole and Freddy in particular, with Cookie and Janey being among those hit. However, Station 42 handling the call and Sharon being there as division chief also affected her and Vince directly, as Sharon unexpectedly collapsed during the call, forcing Vince to carry her to the hospital. Sharon’s turn for the worse heavily hinted at her death possibly being close, especially with nobody coming forward after Edgewater’s residents mass-tested to see if they could be a match for Sharon.
Luke’s presence at the hospital even hinted at he and Sharon hiding an unspeakable secret from Vince, but when they decided to share it with him, it solved all of Sharon and Vince’s problems. Indeed, Luke being a match for Sharon ensured she would have had a kidney, essentially stopping the race against time she was on since her diagnosis. Fire Country season 1’s ending guaranteed Sharon would survive thanks to Luke’s kidney, and, despite not showing the transplant, the news made it easier for Vince and Sharon to go from worrying about Sharon’s health to Bode’s return to prison.
Luke’s arrival at the hospital foreshadowed issues ahead for Vince and Sharon, until they shared with Vince they had matched and Luke donating Sharon his kidney effectively meant he saved her.

Bode Returning To Prison Makes Sharon Lose Faith In Him
While Sharon’s health problems were effectively solved by Fire Country season 2’s beginning, marriage problems between her and Vince seemed to abound. With the two approaching Bode’s stint in prison in a diametrically opposed way, they could not agree on anything, and when Vince believed Bode, Sharon did not want to hear what she believed were Bode’s excuses, leaving Edgewater to fight a campaign fire somewhere else. Sharon’s refusal to engage with anything Bode-related until his return to Three Rock greatly shaped her path ahead for Fire Country season 3.
Luke taking Sharon’s old position already showed how his approach to the role was different. However, spearheading the closure of Three Rock to save the inmate camp program as a whole showed how bad Luke’s leadership was for Edgewater and Cal Fire. Sharon telling Luke about her plan to take her old job back establishes her path for Fire Country season 3, as season 2 already showed how she was done with Luke’s way of handling things. This hints at Fire Country season 3 continuing to focus Sharon’s story on her career instead of her private life.
