9-1-1

Fox Already Has The Perfect 9-1-1: Lone Star Replacement After Its Cancelation

In what came as a shock to no one, Fox canceled 9-1-1: Lone Star ahead of its season 5 premiere, but the good news is the network has its perfect replacement already lined up. Ryan Murphy’s procedural drama is a spinoff of 9-1-1, which made the move from Fox to ABC, where it’s thriving. Unfortunately, things aren’t going as well back for 9-1-1: Lone Star as it’s ending after season 5 likely because of its expensive budget. Unlike the 9-1-1 mothership, 9-1-1: Lone Star won’t be saved by another network, and fans must soon say goodbye to it, while also welcoming a new, similar show.

Many things still need to happen before 9-1-1: Lone Star ends, like Carlos solving his father’s murder and Owen appointing Judd’s replacement at Station 126. All of this and more will (hopefully) happen during the procedural drama’s last set of episodes in late 2024. However, while watching 9-1-1: Lone Star taking its final bow (starting on September 23), fans can also tune in to a similar TV series’ beginning on Fox.

Rescue HI-Surf Is Perfect For Those Disappointed About 9-1-1: Lone Star’s Cancelation

The New Action Drama Premieres On September 22

Rescue: HI-Surf comes at the perfect time for 9-1-1: Lone Star fans. The upcoming action drama TV show, created by Matt Kester, follows a group of lifeguards and first responders on the North Shore of O’ahu, the most populated and third-largest island in Hawai’i. Similar to the characters in 9-1-1: Lone Star, those in the new series respond to emergencies. The only difference is that Rescue: HI-Surf‘s emergencies take place exclusively in the ocean and/or beach, while the 9-1-1 spinoff is set stateside in Austin, Texas.

They are both centered around a team of emergency responders, with 9-1-1: Lone Star focusing on firefighters, paramedics, and police officers in Texas and Rescue: HI-Surf following lifeguards protecting O’ahu’s North Shore.

So, for longtime viewers of 9-1-1: Lone Star who are disheartened by the cancelation news, Rescue: HI-Surf is here to save the day. When one show dies, another begins. Rescue: HI-Surf debuts its pilot episode on Sunday, September 22 at 8 pm ET on Fox before moving to its regular timeslot on Monday, September 23 at 9 pm ET, directly following the 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 premiere.

Why Rescue HI-Surf Is A Great 9-1-1: Lone Star Replacement

The 2 Shows Revolve Around Emergency Responders

As mentioned above, what separates Rescue: HI-Surf from 9-1-1: Lone Star is their location. However, besides that, the two shows have a lot in common. They are both centered around a team of emergency responders, with 9-1-1: Lone Star focusing on firefighters, paramedics, and police officers in Texas and Rescue: HI-Surf following lifeguards protecting O’ahu’s North Shore. The North Shore is one of the most popular and dangerous coastlines in the world due to its massive waves, strong currents, and powerful swells, which ups the stakes and raises the tension in the new series.

Additionally, Rescue: Hi-Surf‘s drama can compete with the 9-1-1 spinoff. From working with one’s ex (who is engaged to someone else) to characters haunted by previous tragedies, the upcoming series is quite entertaining. Ultimately, it will likely be difficult for any TV show to replace 9-1-1: Lone Star, but if one can do it, it’s Rescue: HI-Surf.
