Is Bobby Nash Leaving 9-1-1 After Season 7? What We Know About Peter Krause’s Future

9-1-1 season 7, episode 9 featured many twists and turns for the 118, but the biggest shocker was saved for the final scene which left Bobby Nash’s fate in the air. The development led to questions about Peter Krause’s status with the successful ABC drama heading into 9-1-1 season 8. Bobby has been front and center since the show’s first episode, so his exit would be a big deal for the series.

Given that Bobby survived a cruise ship disaster as part of 9-1-1 season 7’s first major story, it’s hard to imagine the series proceeding without him. He’s a crucial element of the show’s continued success and an important member of the team. Still, while seven seasons as a lead in a broadcast network drama is an excellent achievement, Krause may be interested in taking his career in a different direction, spelling trouble for Bobby.

What Happened To Bobby Nash In 9-1-1 Season 7, Episode 9
Tragedy struck Bobby and Athena’s home

Amir (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) Talks to Athena (Angela Bassett) on 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 9

Bobby’s guilt about his past has played a big part in 9-1-1 season 7 through his conversations with Amir. Amir is a survivor of the fatal apartment fire Bobby caused several decades ago, so their exchanges have not been amicable. In episode 9, recognizing her husband has become distracted, Athena reaches out to Amir and invites him into their home. Her meddling proves to be a big mistake when things get heated between the two men again.

Bobby is furious that Athena brought Amir into their home, leading to one of their biggest arguments. At the end of the explosive hour, Bobby wakes up from a dream of his father passing him a drink to learn that his home is on fire. Without a second thought, Bobby rushes to save Athena. Sadly, things take a devastating turn just when they seem safe. Bobby clutches his chest and falls to the ground as paramedics surround him to try to save his life.

Due to the frantic final scenes of 9-1-1 season 7’s penultimate episode, it isn’t revealed who started the fire at the Nash residence, setting up an even bigger mystery. Given his history with Bobby, it’s easy to point the finger at Amir, but 9-1-1 has never been a show that gives answers away quickly. As a result, someone else with a vendetta against Bobby and Athena may have returned for revenge.

Is Bobby Leaving The 118?
Bobby made a shocking decision about his future

Ahead of the fire and his heart attack, Bobby tells the fire chief about his intention to leave the 118 for good but is told to keep it under wraps as the team is on a high following recognition for their work. It also wouldn’t look very good from a publicity standpoint if he walked while the team was plastered in the media for their heroic efforts. It seems like Bobby’s mind is made up at that point, but his decision may have been driven by Amir making him think about his past.

The episode makes it clear Bobby never let go of the guilt he felt for the apartment fire that claimed many lives. Even if he survives and somehow finds peace with Amir, there’s a high chance his resignation will stick, forcing the 118 to name a new leader. From a storytelling standpoint, this would allow the show to switch up some key dynamics. For example, Buck could be in line to lead the 118 into a new chapter.

This was seemingly set up by Bobby telling Buck how proud he was of his growth earlier in the episode. It would mark excellent progression for Buck’s arc and show how he reacts to this position of power. Plus, showing a different side to Bobby away from the 118 could be interesting because he’s spent so much time devoted to saving lives, which has been taxing on his health. There’s a lot of storytelling potential with Bobby charting a new path if he pulls through this harrowing ordeal.

Bobby’s Health Will Deteriorate In 9-1-1 Season 7, Episode 10
Bobby’s life is on the line

ABC aired a teaser for 9-1-1 season 7, episode 10, which showcased the desperate battle to save Bobby’s life. From the footage, it’s easy to surmise that he is in a coma at the beginning of the season finale, and his condition will worsen as the episode progresses. Athena points out in the footage that she’s been told that hope is gone for her husband, but she’s holding out for a miracle.

The final part of the promo shows Bobby flatlining, seemingly setting up a permanent goodbye for the beloved character. However, promos can be misleading, and it’s possible ABC is merely trying to make viewers think Bobby dies without actually following through.

Bobby’s death would be the biggest twist in 9-1-1’s history because he’s been integral to many storylines. The lack of Bobby would be felt if he doesn’t pull through, but at the same time, a show with characters responding to emergencies entering its eighth season should be able to take risks to drive home the fact that no one is safe. Many things are up in the air about Bobby’s future, but if this is the end, he did get a heroic exit saving his wife’s life.

Peter Krause Is Not Expected To Leave 9-1-1 After Season 7
Peter Krause has no other projects in the works

Bobby (Peter Krause) is upset about his career on 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 9

Peter Krause is an original cast member on 9-1-1. The cast is mostly intact after many years on the air, so it’s hard to imagine the show killing off Bobby out of the blue. Another thing to consider is that Krause is also an executive producer on the series. While he could maintain that role even if he were no longer acting on the show, it gives him a stronger connection to the series than some of the other cast members. Additionally, executive producers have sway over creative decisions, which means Krause’s potential exit would likely happen only if it were his choice.

It helps that Krause seems to be rooting for Bobby and Athena to have a happy ending. Ahead of the season 7 premiere, Krause pointed out in an interview with Decider that 9-1-1 is like a comic book because of the number of things the characters have survived. Krause said:

“Bobby and Athena will make it through everything. I’ve likened the show to a comic book about first responders come to life several times. And it’s amazing when you look back on all the different things these characters lived through.”

For that reason alone, the cast and producers seem to know that many characters defy the odds and that’s it’s built into the show’s DNA. Additionally, Krause isn’t currently attached to any other projects, which offers hope he’ll remain on the show. Bobby has gone through a lot in life, but he’s a fantastic, multi-layered character who remains one of 9-1-1’s main attractions.
